The Customer
Schott provides electronic systems for consumer appliances.
The Problem
Schott is a high-end appliance manufacturer with a need to develop a touch panel control system for an oven, utilizing an ARM processor running a real-time operating system (RTOS). Their engineers were very experienced in touch panel controls and electronics. They also had application programmers who could design and develop the hi-level system logic. What they did not have were the experienced engineers to pull it all together. They needed engineers who knew about hardware drivers and could make the PC simulation application work on the designed processor platform.
The SSI Solution
SSI began the project by outlining a series of drivers that were needed to control the devices - such as keypad, LCD screen, lighting, clock, file system, and bootloader. We assembled a development unit with an ATMEL development board to test each of the system components prior to hardware availability. Then we helped prove out the product hardware, created an interface allowing the upper level application to interface with it, and got the full system to work together.
SSI engineers were invaluable at getting everyone to talk together. Their knowledge of both hardware and software issues saved hours of time and possible hardware rework by laying out needs and expectations early on. They were so available. When issues came up, they attacked them right away to give solutions. The engineers were so easly to talk to, and responsive to continual requests for changes.
